Unveiling Our Butterfly Museum

Our history
The beginning of this dream that slept within me since childhood started back in 2000. My grandparents, parents and biology teachers cultivated my love for the nature of this place by talking to me about every living thing I saw in the area. I grew up with birds in the lagoon, butterflies in the fields and shells by the sea shore. As I grew up, I started to appreciate all these creatures and I got very upset when one species went missing the next year, and I saw others even more rarely. So, I decided to collect them over the years as a precious treasure of my country to show the future generations. This way I hope they become aware of this treasure of Divjaka and preserve it. - Altin Hila -

Photos of work over the years
It started with marine species, because they would trigger my interest by the seashore. As years went by, my love for nature and its creatures kept growing. With time, I started to study them. The loss of many species made me sad, so I started to preserve, protect and help multiply many of the endangered species (butterflies). In July 1st, 2020, my dream came true with the opening of this collection, where pupils, students, visitors and people passionate about nature enjoy so much information. -Altin Hila-

I have been lucky enough to know Altin and visit his Museum of Natural History along with all the treasures that Divjakë-Karavasata offers. Altin, together with his wife Alketa, and other friends are promoting continuously the importance of nature, environment and local traditions among young and senior visitors from all over the world. Take a trip to Divjake and you will be surprised! Rob Jager2024-09-20Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Caroline Wijsman2024-09-19Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. They are both very passionate and knowledgable about the wildlife of the lagoons, the history and the nature. We spent 5 hours with them watching birds, flowers and trees, eating berries and pomegranate and learning about their culture. We ended up visiting the unique collection of shells and insects of the area that they gathered all by themselves, and having a coffee with some of their family members. Usually there is also a boat tour included. We highly recommend!!!
